I am the the great granddaughter of Leicester Chapman. I would love any information you could give me on my family. I moved from Asheville in 1955 and am the last of the family line from Sheppard Ffrench (Frank) Chapman who was Rose Chapman's brother. I have a wonderful manuscript done in 1941 entitled Rose of Rosscraggon.

New to Leicester -- 170 Newfound Road. I moved out here from the Avery's Creek area in Arden...looking around for places to run my dogs. This area seems to be more pastoral than woodsy, except for privately owned land. Are there any public hiking areas nearby? Anyone out there with woods and water willing to let me and my muts hike through? Jillian Wolf, ceramic artist, landscaper and cook (also looking for work!)

I moved here from Atlanta, tiring of the hustle and bustle there (and bad air, too). I must say in the short time I have been here I think I have learned quite a bit and this web site has furthered that. Thanks! And I must say Leicester is a great area of beauty, as well as a great location, with a bunch of other places to go too, which are less than a half hour away.

Great start! I'm glad Leicester has a site. I wish the contact page I visited had email contact instead of phone, though. I was trying to find out about renting the community center.

I really enjoyed going in and reading about how Leicester got it's start. I am very interested in gates of the cities and I believe Leicester to be a prominate gate! I am a local Realtor and talk with many people moving into the community. Now I have information for them! Thank you!

As someone who lives and plans on raising a family in wonderful Leicester, I am pleasantly surprised by the work you've put into providing us with some history. Thanks for the hard work and I'll share this with the rest of my family that lives here in Leicester. Giselle

Hi there! My family and I will be coming to stay in Leicester for Memorial Day weekend, and this site is helping me sort out what to do and see while there. I apologize in advance if my 2 yr daughter climbs on top of any roofs. (That's not entirely a joke, by the way. )

Hi, I've been researching info on Rosscraggon Wood bird sanctuary (in Skyland) which was founded by Rose chapman in 1939. Although this family owned property in Montford, Kenilworth, and S. Avl, I had no idea they were instrumental in establishing Leicester! Many thanks!

I found your site by mere accident while looking for the Leicester Postmaster's phone number. Odd that Mr. Chapman was a postmaster. My great, great, great grandfather founded Gaffney, SC in much the same way as Mr. Chapman (although the land was a grant). That seems to be the history of most small townsâ??a store, a post office then, the naming and incorporation. I'm proud to have lived in Leicester for thirty-five years (give or take a few years for youthful adventures out into the world at large). Thanks for the site. I will visit to see how it developes. Keep up the fine work. Regards, Michael Gaffney, Brookshire Road
